2007-2008 EMPLOYMENT & HOMELESS VETERAN PROGRAM

1.         Each District and Post Commander should appoint a Homeless Veteran and Employment Chairman for 2007-2008.

2.         District and Post Commanders are urged to keep the public aware of the homeless veteran issue.  Use all methods available such as TV, newspapers, radio, your post newsletter and your local churches.

3.         Contact the local Michigan Works Agencies and speak with the Local Veteran's Employment Representative (LVER) or with the Disable Veteran's Outreach Worker (DVOW).  Have them out to your Post Meetings and have them explain what the job outlook is and how the veterans are being placed, also On the Job Training available for Veterans.

4.         Send the name of your Post Chairperson to the Department Director.

5.         Here are some suggestions.

       a.       Don't forget your Post relief fund is for aiding veterans in need.

       b.       Get a list of all the organizations in your area that aid the homeless and unemployed veteran.

       c.       Organize food and clothing drives and turn them into these organizations.

       d.      Contact your legislators and local office holders and keep them aware of the homeless veterans issue.

       e.       Invite speakers to visit your meetings and speak on the homeless and unemployed veteran issue.

       f.       There may be some additional suggestions subject to the Department Commanders approval.

       g.       Projects completed should be reported by letter to the Department Homeless and Employment Chairman and include on your Post activity report.

6.                  The Department Director will answer any questions you have on the program.

7.           Copies of projects must be sent to Director.
