Comrades,
Welcome to the new incoming
year. I would like to congratulate all the newly elected and appointed
Officers. My advice to all of you is to read your job description as
outlined in the By-Laws at all levels; (National and Post), and fully
understand them. During your term you may at one point in time be asked
or challenged as to your responsibilities for which you were elected or
appointed. I would also like to thank all the out going Officers for a
job well done this past year, and ask that you pass on your experiences
with the new Commanders. For the Posts that I didn’t get a chance to
visit, maybe this year. Those that I did, thank-you for your hospitality
and friendship.
As we all know, with a new
year comes new challenges. The new Commander, (Rick Redfern), has
brought with him the new programs from Kansas City and the incoming
Commander In Chief, (Glen Gardner) and his staff. Things that are being
looked for this year, as any year, are election reports, Bonds, audits,
inspections, and attendance by a representative of every Post in the
District at all District meetings. Commanders watch for the leadership
manual for all the programs and requirements for this year to gain
recognition for the white hat.
Membership is the far most
important program of this organization and always will. Without it there
will be no Veterans of Foreign Wars. As Past Department Commander Pea
always said, if every Post member would put in one new member per year
we wouldn’t have any problems with membership. This isn’t being done and
I ask you to support the New Commander this year by recruiting one new
or reinstated member into the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Not asking for
much, is it? Next is being involved in the community. If you do
anything in and around the community, report it. If you go to the
hospital and visit a veteran report it. If you help a neighbor, report
it.
Lastly, I would like to
once again thank everyone for their support this past year especially
the 12th District, my home District and the Don Rea Post
8846, and their Auxiliaries. A big thank you to my wife Sandy and my
family for putting up with me this past year and hang on for the next 2
years to come. I look forward to working with Commander Rick Redfern
and his staff this year and know we will be out traveling the State
together at one point or another visiting a Post , District, or
community function.
Remember:
