Veteran Service Officers
Serving Michigan’s Veterans
vfwmiadvocates@gmail.com
The mission of the VFW Service
Officer program is
to assist veterans and their
dependents, including active duty military personnel, in acquiring benefits and services to
which they may be entitled. Veteran
Service Officers advocate for veterans rights. Veterans
need not be VFW members to take advantage of this assistance, which is provided
free of charge.
Delivery of Veterans Services in the
State of Michigan
The Michigan
Veterans Coalition was formed by five Michigan Veterans’ Service
Organizations' specifically for the purpose of effectively administering
veterans' services in the State of Michigan. The group arrangement allows the
greatest flexibility in balancing the priority of the mission goals and
availability of funded resources. Coalition partners are:
American Legion, Department of
Michigan
Disabled Veterans of America,
Department of Michigan
Marine Corps League, Department of
Michigan
Military Order of the Purple Heart,
Department of Michigan
Veterans of Foreign Wars, Department
of Michigan
The coalition has a presence in all 83 of Michigan’s counties, whether through
the coalition’s employees/volunteers or an accredited affiliation with a county
counselor.

Certified Advocates
VFW Service Officers are skilled professionals, trained
experts in developing disabled veterans' cases by reviewing and applying current
law, pertinent legislation, regulations and medical histories. VFW service
officers function as attorneys-in-fact for the veterans and families they
represent.
The work of service officers involves important matters like helping a veteran
get outpatient treatment or gain admission for inpatient care at a VA medical
center. They assist veterans and their families in filing for VA disability
compensation, rehabilitation and education programs, pension and death benefits,
employment and training programs, and many other programs.
